Basically, run an audio/video cable to the pvr250 from the directv receiver.
Then, go to www.pcmx.net/dtvcon and have a look at the wiring diagram for
the serial port on the back of most receivers. I made one for my RCA
DRD420RE with a 9 pin serial connector/hood for the computer end, and a
handset cord radioshack had on clearance for 97 cents. If yours has the low
speed data port that looks like a telephone jack, its NOT a standard one,
it's a thin one so you might need one of those curly handset cords too.
After you get that wired up (took me about 2 minutes to strip and crimp the
wires out of the handset cord to the serial connector pins) go to
http://tarek.2y.net/myth/ and get either sony.pl for sony receivers and the
RCA receiver I listed above, or RCA.pl for some other models. Chmod the pl
file to be executable and then copy it to /usr/local/bin/changechannel for
example. The instructions from there are in the documentation here:
http://mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-11.html#ss11.4 It should be pretty self
explanatory beyond that.
Good luck,
JJS

Nothing yet, I just got the backend up with the ivtv driver succesfully
working. I just haven't seen any wiring diagrams, with respect to the
receiver. My backend and frontend are going to be in seperate rooms,
connected by cat5. Do I need to go thru the receiver into my pvr250 card, or
direct to the 250 card and not use the receiver at all? I was just looking
for some doc to explain how it all works, so I can get a better picture on
how to go about setting it up.
