It is the same firmware, I only had the Windows driver versioning
attached, and later discovered the internal firmware versioning, which
is more adequate (and changes less frequently).

So your crashes must have other causes. Maybe you also upgrade the
ivtv driver? You can easily downgrade with

apt-get install ivtv-kmdl-<kernel data here>=<version of ivtv you want here> \
                ivtv=<version of ivtv you want here> \

If that is the case, please report the new and old versions and the
card you are using (BTW this is better done at the ivtv-users list,
feel free to reply there)
