So this is what I did. I ran
rmmod lirc_i2c
rmmod lirc_dev
depmod
lirc_dev
lirc_i2c

After running the at-get commands to get lirc.

In my /var/log/messages I see:

Oct 26 18:50:48 localhost kernel: bttv: driver version 0.7.104 loaded
Oct 26 18:50:48 localhost kernel: bttv: using 4 buffers with 2080k (8320k
total) for capture
Oct 26 18:50:48 localhost kernel: bttv: Host bridge is Advanced Micro Devices
[AMD] AMD-751 [Irongate] System Controller
Oct 26 18:50:48 localhost insmod:
/lib/modules/2.4.20-20_29.rh9.at/kernel/drivers/media/video/bttv.o:
init_module: No such device
Oct 26 18:50:48 localhost insmod: Hint: insmod errors can be caused by
incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters. You
may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg
Oct 26 18:50:48 localhost insmod:
/lib/modules/2.4.20-20_29.rh9.at/kernel/drivers/media/video/bttv.o: insmod bttv
failed
Oct 26 18:50:48 localhost modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module rivatv

When I run lircd, I get this in /var/logs/lircd:

Oct 26 18:51:06 localhost lircd 0.7.0pre2[6702]: lircd(hauppauge) ready

Oct 26 18:32:38 localhost.localdomain lircd 0.7.0pre2: accepted new client on
/dev/lircd
Oct 26 18:32:38 localhost.localdomain lircd 0.7.0pre2: could not open /dev/lirc
Oct 26 18:32:38 localhost.localdomain lircd 0.7.0pre2: default_init(): No such
device
Oct 26 18:32:38 localhost.localdomain lircd 0.7.0pre2: caught signal

For some reason, the bttv drivers are loaded. I did not specify them at any
time. I'm running the WinTV PVR 250 card with the grey hauppauge remote.
Thanks in advance,

Oh here's the relevant portion my /etc/modules.conf file:

#START IVTV
# For ivtv

#path[toplevel]=/lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/drivers/media/video
# For bttv and saa7134
path[toplevel]=/lib/modules/`uname -r`/v4l2
# default path
path[toplevel]=/lib/modules/`uname -r`

alias char-major-61 lirc_i2c
alias char-major-81 videodev
alias char-major-81-0 ivtv
options ivtv debug=0 mpg_buffers=30

add below ivtv msp3400 saa7115 tuner lirc_dev lirc_i2c
