[mythtv-users] Connecting to backend server...won't connect

I just upgraded from 0.11 to 0.12, and when I try to watch live TV or a
recording, nothing happens. mythfrontend prints out "Connecting to
backend server.." to the terminal, but then nothing happens.
If I don't have mythbackend running, then I get a dialog that pops up
saying it can't connect to the backend. In one case, I am able to
semi-repeatably watch a pre-recorded show with these steps:
1. Start mythfrontend without mythbackend running.
2. Try to watch a pre-recorded show. The dialog pops up, and after
pressing "ok" I get the normal screen of pre-recorded shows, but the
list is empty.
3. Back out of the selection screen
4. Start mythbackend
5. Go back to watch a pre-recorded show. Everything works ok, I can
select a show and it plays.
This doesn't work if I try to watch live TV instead of a recording. I've
seen the following in the log when I try to watch Live TV only.
2003-10-26 17:25:50 MainServer::HandleAnnounce Playback
2003-10-26 17:25:50 adding: media1 as a player 1
2003-10-26 17:25:50 MainServer::HandleAnnounce Playback
2003-10-26 17:25:50 adding: media1 as a player 0
2003-10-26 17:25:50 MainServer::HandleAnnounce Playback
2003-10-26 17:25:50 adding: media1 as a player 0
2003-10-26 17:25:50 adding: media1 as a remote ringbuffer
2003-10-26 17:25:50 Changing from None to WatchingLiveTV
Error setting codec params
VIDIOC_S_CTRL:: Invalid argument
Can anyone tell me how to get more information on what's going wrong so
I can fix this? I have mythfrontend and mythbackend on the same system,
with my database on a server. I've tried both 127.0.0.1 and the actual
IP for the machine in the backend setup. They both give the same results.
Thanks,
Greg
