[mythtv-users] noob question about apt/rpm

If a file is currently in use and you use apt or rpm to update a package
that needs to touch that file, how is it handled? I know that on
Windows machines the file can't be overwritten so it gets queued up to
be overwritten on reboot. On Linux I'm just not sure.
Examples: ivtv is loaded and I run the rpm update. Will it overwrite
all of the files it needs to?
Mythbackend 0.11 is loaded and I update via rpm to
0.12. Bad?
Just curious.
Thanks,
Jason
