Really? So that's why my LCD display won't work? I bought a VFD and had
no luck whatsoever getting it to run. Did you ever find a workaround?
Can anyone else confirm this?

You are lucky to not buy the Asus A7N8X-VM. We tried and we find that
the
SuperI/O chipset is not well supported by Linux or maybe the parallel
port
is not well supported by LCDProc. (Kernel 2.4.20)

Plus, I was unable to turn on IO-APIC.
