[mythtv-users] Lirc Serial

[Pete's MythTV]

Has anyone out there got lirc working with a generic homebrew type receiver
on debian ?   
I'm using a Win TV Go card, so there is no built-in remote.
I'm having real problems getting it working.  I've tried following all the
guides, docs, google searches, etc.

Obviously I need to follow the Lirc setup:
./setup.sh
make
make install

Do I need to re-compile the debian kernel ?  (What's the easiest method ?)

If so, is this before or after compiling lirc ?

I'm a bit of a Linux newbie, so any help is really appreciated.
