The Nvidia drivers are broken, and will not do interlaced TV modes. So
unless your TV will sync with progressive scan (which requires that it
support horizontal frequencies around 30kHz instead of the TV standard
15.625kHz) you won't be able to get it to work.

The Xfree86 "nv" driver will also not work, it doesn't believe that
anything later than a Geforce 2 board will support interlaced mode.
It's possible that a hack to this driver would make it work, but
I had no luck with that. I suspect the way the Geforce 4 does interlacing
is different to earlier cards.

The frustrating part is that the Nvidia Windows drivers do it just fine,
at least with the AGP cards - the integrated Geforce 4 MX on the nforce2
chipset doesn't do TV out with windows either.

The reason you can see the text mode screen is that it's the bios that
sets it up, and it seems to get it right.

I'm currently trying to obtain a Geforce 2 card with TV out - it seems
to be be the last one that Nvidia supported properly (even that will
probably require an older driver - the latest drivers are just plain broke).

Nvidia have acknowledged the problem (Nvidia forum message from about April 03)
but so far no fix.
