The MythTV HOWTO can't encompass every single variation of remotes that 
are out there.  The example is for an IR receiver that connects to COM1. 
  If your receiver connects to the TV Card itself, don't create the 
symlink to the COM port since it's not going to find the IR receiver there.

You may wish to ask your question on the lirc list, since this is a lirc 
issue, not a MythTV issue.  Once you've got irw or irxevent showing 
keypresses correctly it is no big deal to get the remote to work with Myth.
