[mythtv-users] I am so lost (bttv & btaudio)

I've been banging my head against this myth project for the last week. Using
cvs ~7/30 I was able to get live tv working with encoded sound. I could
pause live tv and the sound stayed in sync. It did have an annoying
high-pitch whine to it though.

Now using cvs from 8/3 I can't get anything to work. I have given up on it,
and am now working with .10 release. I reverted to xmltv 0.5.14, and dropped
the database, recreating it with the one that comes in the release tarball.
I ran setup, and mythfilldatabase with no errors or weird output.

My hardware is an on-board via82cxxx_audio card. Hauppage WinTV-GO! 190
(bt878). And an nVidia Ge-force 2 pro with svideo out. All of this is
running on a Duron 750 (Yes, I know its a dog).

I fire up the backend and frontend (they are on same machine) and go to
program schedule. All the channels are correct, and I can flag stuff to be
recorded etc... When I go to watch live tv, I get good picture but no audio.
AFAIK nothing has changed hardware wise. dmesg shows /dev/dsp1 as my digital
device for capture. I setup my capture card to use dsp1 at 32khz (which
worked earlier). However now I get no sound. The volume is up in the mixer,
and mpg123 will play to the speakers just fine.

Apart from the audio issue (or maybe because of it?) I can't change channels
either. As soon as I press up or down or enter a channel number while
watching tv, the picture freezes. I alt+tab to the console controlling
mythfrontend and all it says is 'rebuffering'. It will sit there doing that
indefinitely. I have never seen it recover from this even after half an
hour.

One more problem (I sure hope these are related) is that nothing will
record. I figured even with messed up sound it should still be able to
record a show and grab at least the video, right? Well it doesn't. Nothing
at all happens. I go to instant recording, and press start, and nothing
happens. No output, no file created in the recordings directory, just
nothing.

Please someone point me to the right manpage, webpage, or message board. I
would really like to get this working, and feel that I am running in
circles. I will post whatever will help. Full dmesg maybe?
