OK.  This probably confirms what you already know, but I just fired up 
F21 with v0.27.4-64-g8fd277b from rpmfusion.  No problem with short 
--avf transcoded recordings from BBC1 and itv played through vlc.  Last 
updates on that box were 22 Jun.
