As a long term user but a dev newbie, I don't really see why the users 
couldn't migrate over to a forum-based system, and the decision about 
developer mailing lists be postponed until later once the dust has 
settled and people have some experience with the forums. To me the 
arguments for users being on forums seem to be much stronger (and has 
been said this is the way that support is going in general) than for 
developers being on forums. My experience is that the usual decision in 
s/w development is to do what you know has merit straightaway and defer 
until later harder decisions that don't need to be taken straightaway.
