While I look forward to the possibility of transcoded streams,
I am reserving judgement on the transcoding capability until I see
the specs on the quality of the transcoding.  The size of the chip
in the pictures from CES suggest an ASIC/FPGA design.  It will
depend on which core they have chosen as to the quality of the
result.  Even broadcast quality equipment requires some tuning to
produce great results.  And the HD-PVR stream challenges that
MythTV has sometimes experienced demonstrates that h.264
encoders can have issues (and are not all equal).
