Oh yeah, I should mention: in various forums, I've seen reports
of people getting the S370 to play other than files named *.avi
with other servers, so always faking .avi may not be the only
possible solution.

I contacted Sony, asking them if they could tell me the combinations
of extent and mime type. Of course, as you might expect, they said
something along the lines of "Have you tried turning it off and then
back on?"
