you all seems such sticklers on this list for not hijacking threads, so
i suppose i might ask what this all has to do with my original question?

when testing versions, the contents of the database is not really the
major concern.
and in any case, it is pretty rare that a change cannot be reversed. how
else would people test?

i'll cons up a patch and see what people think.
