Not that I am aware of. As I see it, the whole vbi stuff for bttv cards is far 
from mature, and has the limitations you mentioned. I remember I even had 
strange characteris in the top left of my screen when enabling  subtitles....
As for IVTV cards decoding of the vbi in the embedded stream is the preferred 
route, we should rewrite the code anyhow, bring it outside NuppelVideoPlayer 
and NuppelVideoRecorder so code can be shared between the different recording 
profiles. On top of that, I propose a new OSD class to handle subtitles and 
(later) teletext overlays.
To tackle the different page numbers, I suggest to add some database entries 
into the channel field, and add this to the setup GUI in the channel editor 
window.
