[mythtv] MythTV - DRI required?

Yeah, that's it alright. I wouldn't mess with it unless you also want to for other reasons, and you're prepared to reload the system if it goes bad.

I'm 75% of the way done downloading the last iso for Red Hat's Phoebe beta (8.0.93) that has XFree86 4.2.99 (soon to be 4.3.0) and a DRI that supports Radeon 8500 (aka R200 engine). I plan on installing it tomorrow night and trying to get MythTV to work on that. I'll post how it goes.

The way I understand it, it's XFree86's Direct Rendering Interface (DRI) to the Kernel's Direct Rendering Module (DRM). Mesa is the open source OpenGL and that's mixed into the stew somewhere. You probably want to coordinate all the versions. Downloading just those RPMs from Red Hat's Rawhide archive and upgrading them might be easier than trying to compile it all. Recompiling Xfree86 used to be four kinds of pain.

However, if you boot straight into X Windows (via GDM or KDM), messing up DRI or XFree86 will make your system unusable (except remotely). Anyway, I'll report back on what I find out.

Hi,
This is very interesting. I am one of those with the setup described. Is
this the "DRI" you refer to?

http://dri.sourceforge.net/

How easy is it to install this, as I would be willing to experiment just
to get the box earning its keep!

Cheers

Jonathan
