Log:

This lets one programmatically set the channel format
based on the hardware being scanned. Currently it sets
the format as "%1_%2" for the pcHDTV card using the V4L
drivers and "%1%2" otherwise.

But the real motivation is to allow us to set the format
based on existing channels or a database setting.
