It probably predates the discovery by Freeview Marketing of what skip 
actually means. As an embedded system, it may not have the power to do 
fast-forward, and the engineers that built it would have put skip in as 
that is relatively simple, and they would not have cared about the 
advertisers precious output being discarded.
