Short Story: Which PCIe DVB-S2 cards are people having success with?
Longer Story: I'm in the process of replacing a very stable, but old,
0.24 system with a 0.32 system. I have both running just now with the
0.32 under test.
I'm having a torrid time with the HVR5525 PCIe T2/S2 capture card. I had
two in an HP ML350 server that also hosts VM's doing other things.
The 5525 would lock up. The native driver in Rocky Linux (RHEL 8 clone)
does not have a work around for an issue in the cx23885 driver that the
later driver versions have. I got that work around by compiling the
driver from source. But the problem persists. Forum posts suggest that
the problem occurs on Xeon and Ryzen systems.
I moved the two 5525 cards to a i3 based mini-pc slave backend. Although
more stable it's not yet 100% OK. The same workaround for the driver
seems to help. I've also compiled up minisat/ip to see if the cards play
better with that. I'm about to test that as an option.
This is getting painful. Maybe I could switch to a sat/ip hardware box.
Is anyone having success with TBS cards? Previously on another system
I'd not had much success compiling their drivers which are not in the
stock Linux Media tree. In my past experience, a TBS help desk person
compiled a custom version of their driver for me. Maybe there's a better
solution these days. The Conexant cx23885 chip seems to be quite common
in PCIe cards, including the TBS, so I may still meet the same issue.
So back to my question, what are others doing for PCIe DVB-S2 capture?
Thanks
Ken
