There is some documentation for the FTDI and FTDIX drivers that gets
installed with the lirc package on Ubuntu:
/usr/share/doc/lirc/lirc.org/html/ftdi.html
/usr/share/doc/lirc/lirc.org/html/ftdix.html
Does the mode2 -l command see the device? It should if the drivers
are installed properly. And I think the serial number should be
displayed as well. I am not sure if you need one of the libftdi
packages installed. I am using an FTDI based device for RS-232 and I
think I needed to install libftdi1-2 for that, but it is too long ago
to remember properly.
