I did this change several months ago.  Hopefully the documentation is 
better now.  In my nearly 17 years (most of that time building from 
Trunk/Master) of using MythTV, this was by far the most irksome thing 
I've had to do.  That includes the initial install and setup, various 
lirc changes, firewire debugging, manual modelines on tvs without 
edid/odd native resolutions,  etc.

Once done, it does work well.  I do notice that it takes much longer to 
run than the old method and also uses much more cpu.
