OK, same error, but I see the backend is running as root. The command runs
for about 1 second, so the timeout part of the error message isn't likely.

I'd try running the failing command as the root user. Mine looks like this:

$ sudo --set-home --login --user=root # Not sure of PATH used by your init system...
# tv_grab_zz_sdjson_sqlite --capabilities
baseline
manualconfig
preferredmethod
lineups
apiconfig

Or, could it be as easy as having the grabber installed in a directory not
in root's $PATH...
