My external USB Hard Drive has it’s own power supply so that is not a problem.

Until I build mythtv backend on the RP3 I won’t know it’s capability.  I do know that with tvheadend I can record 3 HDTV programs at once without issues.  Just don’t know about mythtv-backend.
