Looking at the screenshots you posted triggered a memory - you have
the "Max CPUs" setting as 1 in your custom setup.  I think that it may
also be 1 in the default VDPAU setup.  But it should be set to the
number of CPU cores you have in the VDPAU case.  I seem to remember
that when I first started using VDPAU, back about 8 or 9 years ago, I
had some strange things happening until I changed that setting.  So if
your CPU has more than one core, try changing that setting.
