As I'm in the process of rescanning, myself, I thought I'd mention how I
do a rescan.
First of all, fetch a copy of Mythupchuk
(https://github.com/StarsoftAnalysis/mythupchuk). This is a script that
will give you an easier-to-edit file than editing the database. Run
"mythupchuk --fileupdate somefilename.txt" to save your current channel
listings to somefilename.txt.
Next, on your backend server, stop the backend service, then run
"mythtv-setup". Select "Channel Editor", then "Scan Channels". Choose
what options you'd like (e.g. TV only, unencrypted only for example),
then set the scan type to "Scan Existing Frequencies". When the scan
completes, let mythtv update "old" channels, ignore "missing" channels
(they may well be temporarily off-air) and insert "new" channels. Quit
out of mythtv-setup and re-start the backend.
Finally, run "mythupchuk --fileupdate somefilename.txt" a second time.
This will pull in the new channels and update the off-air/deleted status
of existing channels. Edit the file and set any channel assignments as
you see fit. To save your changes, run "mythupchuk --dbupdate
somefilename.txt --commit" to write back to the database (the upside of
this is that your channel numberings are saved in a text file, and if
they move around, mythupchuk forces them back onto the numbers you like).
