>From what I read the TV going blank when turned back on is an HDMI issue
and there are a few suggested workarounds I could try. But the best
solution for me is not to use HDMI and to use DVI and VGA and then use the
analog and SPDIF outputs of the motherboard. I will swear that when I
unmuted the outputs in alsamixer that they were muted again on the next
reboot up until we started using the pulse audio config program. But pulse
audio config did not have an option for both analog and digital outputs
unless one was the second sound chip on the nvidia card. What seemed to be
happening is that pulse was muting the alsa outputs unless I selected them
with the pulse config program.

What is the prefered way to get the alsa settings to stick?

Second point. The 390 driver was not an option on the proprietary driver
menu. Perhaps it will work if I install it manually but last go around
(with the 304 driver and the old card), that did not work. What is the best
way upgrade from 304 to 390? Is there a way to get it to show up as an
option in the GUI proprietary driver screen?
