Peter:  Thanks to your excellent instructions and infrastructure, and of 
course a lot of other development effort over the years, I now have a 
MythTV frontend installed on a fire stick 4k (35 GBP here).

Unfortunately I haven't yet got it to connect to a backend.  Since I 
often have two FE/BE boxes running, and they don't talk to each other, 
I'm not really surprised by that.  I'm sorry not to be able to confirm 
immediate success - but that doesn't look as if it should be too far away.

My device is close to my router and is using the 2.4 GHz band.  My 
daughter's house may need the ethernet adapter.

As I mentioned on the dev list, playback quality for my content, mainly 
from UK SD Freeview, seems to be excellent using VLC; but for that mpeg2 
video format, as you reported, hardware acceleration must be disabled.

I was a little concerned to find that on installation the firestick 
seemed to be purchase-enabled; but I guess that explains the price :-)
