i've just gone with the autostart tool (i forget the correct name of the tool) via the gui menu in raspbian (jessy).
doesnt do much with sanity checking like startup scripts could with BE/network availability, or and sort of crash handling (doesnt the FE auto restart if it crashes?), but it is very simple and i've not found the FE ever being unavailable.
my rpi's run 24/7, with a nightly reboot.
