Personally, I splurged on a system which could take a nVidia video card. I
was fortunate in that I had an old Core2 Duo ITX board sitting on the
shelf, so I just had to add:

Silverstone ML08B-H

<http://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=607>
GeForce GT 1030 AERO ITX 2G
https://www.msi.com/Graphics-card/GeForce-GT-1030-AERO-ITX-2G-OC.html

and I ended up with a system which could produce the best quality
mythfrontend is capable of.

Note: That case does not come with a power supply, but will take a SFX-L
style with 120mm fan if you want to keep it quiet. For the CPU cooler,
this one works beautify in that system:

Noctua NH-L9x65

Definitely more expensive than a NUC if you have to buy all the components,
but has the advantage that individual components can be upgraded if needed.

That old Core2 Duo paired with that video card has more than enough power
to handle any task mythfrontend will throw at it.
