[mythtv-users] The Comcast copy-once Saga

At the beginning of January I discovered that Freeform channel was set
to copy-once (both SD and HD).

It took two months for Comcast to sort it out.

It seems that tackling this through the Comcast forums is no longer the
way to go. After posting a message there, I was eventually, after a few
weeks, contacted by somebody from "Advanced Support". He phoned me every
day for some two weeks and spoke at length about how complicated this
was, and generally wasted time. Eventually he stopped calling and the
local office took over.

I had three technician visits and the cable card was exchanged twice.
Nobody was interested in knowing about "Copy Once". They kept focusing
on MPEG4 as the possible problem.

After the last technician visit it was handed to the technician's
supervisor. After a few phone calls he sorted it out. He told me he took
it up with somebody way up the line and they fixed something.

Freeform is now back to "Copy Free".

I think that having MythTV as my only source of TV in the house may have
helped. They don't know what MythTV is, but they seem to accept is as a
valid way of watching TV once they see it. I think if I had said I could
get the channel but could not record it with MythTV they would have been
less inclined to help.
