Hi Mike,

-v file,gui generated a ~1MB log file upon startup, so much to sift
through.  I did find additional warnings from MythFontManager such as these:

2016-10-22 11:19:35.761633 W [3308/1295] CoreContext
mythfontmanager.cpp:204 (LoadFontFile) - MythFontManager: Unable to load
font(s) in file
'/Applications/MythFrontend.app/Contents/Resources/share/mythtv/fonts/LiberationSans-Regular.ttf'

As well as these:

2016-10-22 11:19:49.854057 W [3308/1295] CoreContext
mythfontmanager.cpp:204 (LoadFontFile) - MythFontManager: Unable to load
font(s) in file
'/Users/htpcmini/.mythtv/themes/Steppes/Fonts/LiberationSans-Regular.ttf'

Notes:
-the file exists in both places above and has world read permissions
-this is a Mac OS X fronted (latest pre-built binary from SourceForge), so
apt-get install is not an option

When I switch to a working font (e.g. MythCenter Wide), I get the first
type of warning (for the .app directory) but no warnings or load messages
for anything in .mythtv/themes/

Can anyone tell me which place the fonts _should_ be loading from?   Then I
can work on finding an un-corrupted set of .ttf's and putting them in the
correct location.
