Only TwitTV & DW still seem to work in the original HLS file. Even
Democratic Republic of Burma has stopped (how ironic)..
UNHCR doesn't work.

You don't have to hack the original sample HLS m3u file just add another
iptv tuner / HLS.m3u file.
The m3u file, posted recently, has many more functioning channels.

AFAIU The mythtv-setup scanner generates a m3u8 playlist from the m3u
file. The scanner does appear to perform some network activity. Maybe
just looking for icons, would need to study the code to know. 

You can make any channel invisible in the channel editor tab.
