A two year old Samsung TV almost certainly has some form of digital
audio out. If you're looking to drive a 5.1 speaker system, you
really really really want to use that, not the 2-channel analog
output.

For the MythTV frontend in my bedroom, I got a cheap Samsung Blu-Ray
player/amp/5.1 speaker set for ~$90 on sale after rebate. The
computer connects to the TV via HDMI. The TV's optical digital audio
out goes to the Blu-ray player, which is directly connected to the
speakers. Is it great sound? No, but it's a ton better than the
built-in flat panel speakers for not a lot of money.

Some TV's also support "audio return channel" via HDMI. Mine doesn't,
but if yours does, you can use that to deliver audio output via HDMI.
Check your documentation.
