Even if you were able to get 8 years out of WMC, I am not confident that
CableCard support will last that long. Support was essentially nonexistent
until the FCC mandated their use in MSO supplied STBs in 2007. The MSOs
have been advocating the removal of the requirement ever since.

As Gary pointed out, it impossible to know what the future will hold.
