I can only speak to MythTV Player, but if you are referring to the "large
buttons" and they are not showing artwork from your backend, then your
artwork grabbers must not be setup correctly.  The app adheres strictly to
the Google Android Material Design guidelines and tries to take advantage
of the artwork MythTV provides through the Services API. I am really trying
to make it a pleasing experience.

The way I see it is there are really 2 camps.  Either just show lists of
the data on your backend or use the artwork available to give a rich user
experience.  You mention both of these.  Is there somewhere in between you
would like to see these apps go?
