Maybe this will help.

HDHomerun - Freeview SD
Shuttle DS47 - Lubuntu 13.10 - MythTV .27 - Samba shares
  gigabit ethernet to
Dynamode Wi-Fi router
Samsung Galaxy Fame - Android 4.1.2
Hannspree 10" tablet - Android 4.4.2

I can use ES File Explorer to select the .mpg files in the Myth recording directory and MX Player to play them. It seems to work quite well.
