This (passing along its own EDID) is a rational default for many
A/V receivers because they do video processing (up/down/side
scaling). Many/most also support a "passthrough"/"bypass"
mode of video processing for HDMI devices which should send
through the target EDID unmolested. Whether a particular Denon
has this capability is likely unknowable without testing, as Denon
makes many different model lines, and some likely have different
capabilities than others (I would tend to believe the high end X
series is more likely than the low end S series).
