I've confirmed that if I select VAAPI in the frontend setup, the frontend
log shows that the VAAPI driver failed when I play a recording, and it
looks as though myth reverts to OpenGL since the video played properly
anyway (this confirms why I saw no real difference between OpenGL and VAAPI
earlier in this thread; they were apparently one in the same).
Anyway, I found this blog
<http://samiux.blogspot.com/2014/07/howto-ecs-liva-mini-pc-kit-on-ubuntu.html>
that
discusses the installation of additional 3rd-party drivers to enable VAAPI
on the Liva. Below is an excerpt:
For the video playback, you are required to install the following packages:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:sander-vangrieken/vaapi
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install mplayer-vaapi gstreamer1.0-vaapi gstreamer1.0-libav
libva-intel-vaapi-driver vainfo mencoder-vaapi
Did anyone else here find this necessary I don't recall seeing anyone
mention this as a requirement?
