While this (saving money) may still be possible, it is no
longer assured because of OEM quantity discounts,
retail loss-leaders, discontinued stock pricing, etc.  If
(for example) you tried to individually source the exact
same parts as a typical Dell computer it could very
well cost you more than ordering direct.  In the
"bad old days", an advantage of building it yourself
was that you did not need to include components
that you did not want/need, but with the advent of
having everything integrated (it is tough to find a
planar that does not have integrated SATA or USB
ports, for example), there is less to be able to not
include.  That said, if you have specific requirements,
for specific components (for example you insist on a
realtek ethernet chip (likely a bad idea, but your
system, your choice)), building yourself may be a
requirement.

If the online manual is correct, that monitor has an
HDMI port (input 4).  You might want to look closely,
as HDMI is likely going to be an easier option to
use (if it works, of course).
