Sounds like this wasn't your solution before, but you might want to
consider FLIRC (www.flirc.tv), which only needs USB HID.  We wound up using
that vs. putzing around directly with LIRC, irrecord, and lircs manual
config files.  I know that I could have figured it out eventually, but this
particular issue just is not worth that much of my time anymore.
