The anecdotal reports suggest that the HD-PVRs suffer from
(a) crappy and/or short lived power supplies, (b) thermal
issues (they overheat and "flake"), (c) USB weirdness
(which can be various combinations of motherboard,
OS, and HD-PVR), and (d) while I thought I remember it
being addressed, I recall that those that tried to used the
IR blaster could see some issues.

Obviously specifics matter, which is why I suspect that
some people can't seem to get things to work for half a day
and others run well for years.

Especially given the thermals, I expect that older HD-PVRs
will eventually start dying.  And as the "new old stock"
depletes, the fear by some is that there will be no
solution available for those wishing to use the analogue
hole.
