I ought to report that the recording I started in response to the 
initial post failed about 18 minutes later.  This was on the laptop with 
290e tuner that I had retuned shortly beforehand after my out-of-area 
expedition; it hadn't made any other recordings before this one.  At 
present it's not clear what went wrong, but I got several reports of 
'poll took an unusually long time' - and that's over 30 seconds.
