Never upgrade the database using the backend or frontend. Use mythtv-setup first, let it do it's thing, then backend then frontends. Always make sure frontends are off when upgrading.

Also 10.04 / 12.04 / 14.04 are Mythbuntu version numbers, not myth version numbers. I assume that v0.25.3-49-gb5adf03 is the new version you are trying to run, so what version is your current system? I don't recall what version 10.04 will go up to but I'm guessing it should get pretty close to 0.25 if not 0.27. In my opinion you should aim to get to 0.27 as that is the current version which has been out for over a year. So as I understand it just use mythbuntu-control-centre to select the latest version on your 10.04 system and let it handle the upgrade. Then go to the same version on the new 14.04 system, restore the database no further database upgrade required.

There is no way you should need to go 10.04 to 12.04 then 14.04.
