"Spinning Rust" is used as a term of endearment,
and not intended to be a technically accurate definition
of implementation any more than "mon canard" is
expected to be taken literally.

And while (like the phones with rotary dials)
many may never ever again directly touch a
device with rotating media storage, many of
us fondly remember exchanging physical disk
packs in mainframe/mini computer disk
drive assemblies (well, somewhat fondly;
they were heavy if you had to swap a lot of
them), so unless every time you hear someone
refer to another as "sweetheart" you also
grit your teeth, perhaps you should also give
those that use the term "spinning rust" a
little leeway.
