Thanks Anthony. I definitely have mplayer installed. And it appears to be working as I get the thumbnail images in the tmp cache folder. I just don't get the thumbnails displayed in the mythcut webpage.
But the apache error.log does show this (no idea how I missed it first time around):
PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function imagecreate() in /var/www/mythcut/lib/MovieStripeHandler.php on line 19, referer: http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/mythcut/?action=movie&selectedMovie=1011.1413333120&init=true
After a bit of google I worked out I needed to install the GD library for php. These commands solved the problem for me:
sudo apt-get install php5-gd
sudo service apache2 reload
Will now try it out and see how it works! Thankyou for the assistance.
