Antti Palosaari, who wrote the open source drivers for both, explains in his blog that when he wrote the driver for the cxd2820r in the 290 he included a "hackish solution" of first tuning with DVB-T and then trying DVB-T2. So it's not going to change in the kernel.

So MythTV is incorrectly trying to tune DVB-T2 channels as DVB-T, it's just in the past this was masked because if the tune failed the driver tried DVB-T2 anyway despite being asked (by MythTV) to tune as DVB-T?
