I use the TuxOnIce kernel extension, which allows for complete
hibernate to disk. I can just unplug after hibernation, no power usage
at all and up in no time. Alternately you can suspend to ram (but save
also to disk. Then there is slight power usage, but a restore in 2
seconds. If the power has been off it resumes from disk. Especially
nice with a laptop!
