So this is a "dedicated" MythTV "set-top-box" attached to a TV?  That
is, you only want to use this machine for MythTV?  My questions/answers

Why are you even running a "file manager" (Thunar) on a machine that is
dedicated to being a MythTV set-top-box?

I'm thinking you need to get even more drastic and get rid of Thunar and
any other "desktop" tools/configuration you might have running there.
The only thing that should be in your X session is MythTV's
mythfrontend.

I've been running all of my FEs like that for about a decade now and
it's always worked wonderfully.  Contrary to popular belief here I don't
and have never even run a window manager on my FEs and have never, ever
had the focus problems that some will claim you will have if you don't.
I didn't even have focus problems back in the early days of MythTV where
it spawned and external viewer (i.e. mplayer) to watch videos.
