There were 2 approaches he recommended:

1) "If you want to ... watch Cable live bypassing MythTV," get another STB.

which implies a second approach:

2) Don't connect the (one) STB to the TV (and don't get another STB) and 
either a) use Live TV through MythTV or b) don't use Live TV.
